Recent Reading

I have recently completed reading a book which I had always wanted to read - Pearl S Bucks "The Good Earth". It is an exciting novel in Chinese rural, agrarian settings. The main characters are the farmer Wang Lung and his wife O-Lan. The most memorable character is O-lan whom you can never forget. She is a unique creation. At places the novel presents the realities of late 19th-Early 20th Century China in such shoking terms, you find them hard to belive. The novel is easily readable. Once you begin, it is impossible to leave it before finishing.
After finishing Good Earth, I started an academic kind of book on the Renaissance by an American scholar. Both books were purchased here in Arlington sometime late last year in a yard sale for $ 0.25 for each! Books are not valued any more.
